Thank God for Kieran Culkin’s relatively down-to-earth speech, and his acknowledging his wife and growing family. He and Adam Sandler (who showed up in a brightly colored hoodie and shorts) might have been the only two actually relatable people there.

I completely agree - I mentioned Adam Sandler in another story I wrote about the best / random moments from the Oscars. The bit he did with Conan O’Brian wasn’t particularly funny but I like that he leaned into his casual personal and didn’t care about wearing a hoodie and basketball shorts for the skit. Kieran Culkin’s speech was hilarious!

Do Oscar wins provide the box office boost they used to? Of course, many of these movies only have a streaming life. Is there a streaming boost? I read somewhere that Neon spent 17 million on Oscar publicity for Anora. There's no way they're earning that back.

I really don't know if Oscar attention for films help them in the way they used. There is so much content to consume today that most people simply don't have the time to even be curious to see what the fuss is about when it comes to most of the films that reach Oscar level success - which is why I think the way these films are marketed as well as how the Oscars are presented needs to change - I also think it's time the Oscars expand their categories or be more inclusive of other genres such as horror, comedy and even action.
