The Best, Funniest and Most Random Moments from the Oscars
Ariana Grande’s ingenuity, really awkward singing and a cat holding an Oscar
The only reason I watch the Oscars these days is for moments like these.
At an event where there is an attempt to control every single second, I live for the chaos when actors who, are shockingly just human, say or do funny, random, award things.
Here are the moments that gave me joy, cringe and or made me think ‘this was really unnecessary.’
Enjoy
When Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan reunited
When Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan walked out on to the stage holding hands to announce the award for Best Picture, every true rom-com obsessed film buff leaped with absolute joy - I did! When Harry Met Sally is one my list as one of the most fundamentally important films, ever.
It was a wholesome, funny and heart warming reunion and I need to see them do a project together.

Kieran Culkin’s Speech
Hilarious. Who knew speeches could have a sequel?
Context: when Culkin won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in A Real Pain he reminded his wife that during his speech at the 2024 Emmys award (when he won for his role in the HBO series Succession) that she had said they could have more children (they currently have two) if he won the Emmy which he did. He then reminded her that on that same night she had said they could have four children if he won an Oscar.
“I just have this to say to you Jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith, no pressure, I love you, I’m really sorry I did this again, and let’s get cracking on those kids.”

The Cat’s Oscar
This is the cutest thing.
When director Gints Zilbalodis was accepting his award for Best Animated Feature for Flow the star of his film, the cat was project on the screen behind him holding an Oscar.
Adrian Brody and Halle Berry kissing
Context: in 2003 when Brody won his first Oscar for his role in The Pianist, making him the youngest best actor winner in Oscar history, he hugged and then kissed Berry who was presenting the Oscar for the category. It was a controversial moment at the time and since then, despite Berry saying this to Andy Cohen in 2017 Watch What Happens Live, in 2017.
“Because I was there the year before and I know the feeling of being out of your body, I just fucking went with it. But I was like: ‘What the fuck is going on right now?’”
Now 22 years later, Berry decided to relive the moment on the red carpet with Brody was nominated (for which he won) and she was also presenting.
‘“I had to pay him back,” she told Variety later.
I like that she addressed Georgina Chapman, Brody’s partner, before and after the kiss with “Sorry Georgina but I gotta do it.”

Adam Sandler on being Adam Sandler
In a sort of cheesy bit where Conan O'Brien gives Sandler a hard time about his lack of proper attire, the funniest part of was the fact that Sandler actually did it.
Just seeing him in his typical day to day attire, which he’s often photographed in, and how most people watching the show were probably dressed at home, was hilarious.

Context: The random bit in the end where he held Timothee Chalamet is in reference to Nikki Glaser who hosted this year’s Golden Globe’s, making a joke that Chalamet’s name is something Sandler would say and proceeding to do a very accurate impression.
Ariana Grande’s phone hack
Ariana Grande using her Schiaparelli couture dress as a phone holder is both the most ingenious and funniest thing to me.

Awkward singing speech
This was truly unnecessary.
When the winners of the Best Original Song – a trio comprised of Clement Ducol, Camille and Jacques Audiar – were accepting their award for Emilia Perez, for some reason Camille ended the speech with an impromptu off-key tune at the end of the speech.
